Bajadasaurus Dinosaur: The Ultimate Kids Gift

We welcomed the bajadasaurus dinosaur toy to the Dino farm very early one morning in last quarter of 2025. On his arrival there was a lot of screaming and happy tears. Not to mention my ecstatic four year old was jumping up and down. Somehow he managed to rip the gift paper off his new toy. After nearly a year of procrastination to start this blog; here we go.

It’s 11:21pm June 4th, 2026 and I have to tell you about the new addition to my son’s Dino farm. His birthday is just a few months before Christmas. Needless to say choosing the right gift for him was a bit of a challenge for hubby and me. Of course he wanted a dinosaur! There I was thinking he would grow out of this “Dino era” but No! Definitely not! There was quite a line up of things in the Amazon cart waiting eagerly to be checked out. As a consequence there was quite a lot of “hmm…”, “maybe this one is for Christmas”. Followed by, “are you sure we should get him another one” being thrown around in conversations between us.

Given a choice he would not mind having a different version of T-Rex for each day of the year and trust me when I say he had quite few of those (some missing legs and arms of course, since they were beyond repair but having one leg ….or none in some instances does not excuse you from being in a battle okay…just so you know.

A Jurassic World marathon was showing on the television so we thought we’d tactfully ask his opinion on which dinosaur he’d like. The options available were T-Rex of course, Therizinosaurus, Carnotaurus, Scorpius Rex, Indoraptor, Indominus Rex and the Bajadasaurus. Although they we thought they were strong contenders, we forgot that he was only three (3) years old at the time and he complained that they were too scary.

Also, some of these are for bigger kids so be careful to read the description before making a decision.

Hubby and I decided on a Bajadasaurus. Of course, if you are like me, I had never heard of him before either. Apparently having concern over the probability of spikes and tail of a toy accidentally poking your one and only child is being over protective. So I decided to “act chill” and go with the flow, (calm on the outside but going crazy on the inside).

We also got him a toy police car and a wall mounted boxing machine ; which we gave him for Christmas. The boxing machine by the way turned out to be a gift to myself because it was a little to grown up for him. Maybe as he grows older he may become interested in it. Not withstanding, he was more interested in playing with the actual toys he received. Oh ! I almost forgot to mention he absolutely adores Toothless from the movie “How to Train your Dragon”. That one made it to the Christmas pile too, lol!

I included some of the toys we bought him as well as some of the top contenders below. Some are for bigger kids so you can have options. We looked at toys that would minimize the amount of screen-time he was having as well. I actually liked the Pogo Jumper but we got him a scooter instead. Definitely get a helmet because we didn’t and he went straight into the wall and bumped his head. He had a fall and a nice cry then he was at it again.

Just to give a little background on the Bajadasaurus whose name is “Spike” by my imaginative Dino wrangler. He was from the Early Cretaceous period which was approximately about 140 million years ago. He was a herbivore and belonged to a type of dinosaurs called Sauropods. We know the well-known Brachiosaurus and Brontosaurus sauropods.

The sauropods had small heads, very long necks and their legs were very thick almost resembling tree trunks. The bajadasaurus fossil was found in Argentina in 2010 and some spikes on the back which were somewhat curved inwards in nature and were found to be at least two feet in length; probably useful for defending himself against hungry carnivores and protecting his long neck as well.

Of course his long neck would have been useful for foraging and attaining the best shrubs on tall trees that were not accessible to his shorter counterparts like the triceratops.

Prior to purchasing this toy, we knew nothing of its existence. The packaging indicated that it was part of the Jurassic World Camp Cretaceous TV series. So of course we had to watch it. It was actually interesting and entertaining. Son-son actually watched it, and he did not get scared.

When ‘Spike’ arrived, the retailer boxed him in a brown cardboard shipping box and included a stylish Jurassic World packaging. Turning the wheel at the back moves the neck. Rolling the wheel back and forth give the neck a swooping upwards and downwards motion and causes the spikes on the neck to move closer together or further apart for a more realistic neck movement; a cool feature that allows free movement that does not look stiff and rigid.

The tail can be moved from left to right manually or with the button on the back located just behind the rotating wheel for the neck control, the tail immediately whips back to the original position after being moved; probably useful to smack some unwanted predators during an attack! His four strong thick legs are movable so he can run away from or charge into and pummel a predator to defend himself.

Before I go any further, this toy does not make any sounds on his own. He does a ferocious roar courtesy of my son’s loud vocals when battling other large carnivores or a herd of raptors. That sound can certainly scare the crap out of them and have them flying all over the bedroom floor with some combined neck and aggressive foot movement.

That takes care of the physical aspects now onto some even more exciting features. This Bajadasaurus toy by Mattel is already cool and has the added feature of a hidden code to scan that’s located on the upper part of his tail. Collect a Digital Dino and play free games in the Jurassic World Play App.

We were able to scan with any compatible smart device. We used a tablet or phone that unlocked this awesome feature, which is a definite hit with my son. His favourite is the racing game that allows you to collect badges and unlock other chill features and dinosaurs. The upside comes when he starts playing this game; he stays engrossed for a while, typically until his tablet dies.

So standing at a nice size of 13 inches long and 8 inches in height the Bajadasaurus is big enough to be battle ready and victorious in any showdown. The added bonus of the scan code to access hours of exciting playtime to keep my now four (4) year old as busy as a bee in springtime! I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a toy to keep their little ones occupied.

And who knows if the kid in me will start a collection of my own sometime!
